Introduction

After decades of my own self-help journey, the work on mind, body, and spirit, and the associated character-building, I promise you: It’s worth it.

Facing fear and self-doubt is the price of growth. However, it can and will change your life.

This is more than a self-help book. This is guided recovery.

This is a workbook that offers a place to land and tools that help. But you must do the work and there is work in every chapter. Mentally prepare. This isn’t a race, take your time, let things sink in, reflect, feel the emotions. This is part of the process.

I love you all.

Now let’s get to it.

---

Welcome to the Work of Coming Back to Yourself

You don’t need to do more. You need space to breathe, to feel, to think clearly again. This workbook isn’t here to fix you—it’s here to walk with you back to your own voice, your own wisdom, and your own sense of peace.

You’re not here because you’re weak. You’re here because you’ve been strong for too long—without enough rest, truth, or permission to stop holding it all together.

This is your permission.

✍️ Why This Workbook Exists The modern world has no shortage of information—but what we’re starving for is clarity. We’re always on, constantly comparing, endlessly scrolling, and pretending we’re fine. The result? Disconnection, burnout, and a life that feels like it’s running us instead of the other way around.

Before You Break (the book) helped you name it. This deep-dive workbook will help you reclaim it.

🛠️ How This Workbook Works This isn’t about productivity. It’s about recovery.

You’ll walk through five thematic phases that mirror the emotional arc of real healing:

1. The Overload

2. The Awakening

3. The Reset

4. The Return to Self

5. The Plan to Stay Free

Each section will include:

● A brief anchor message to ground the theme

● Layered reflection prompts (mind, body, action)

● Somatic tools to help your nervous system catch up to your healing

● Tension testing: safe real-world challenges that stretch growth gently

● Peace rituals to protect the calm you’re building

● Checkpoints to remind you: you’re changing, and it matters

🧘‍♀️ What You’ll Need ● A pen

● A little privacy (or headphones + boundaries)

● A willingness to be honest—even if it’s messy

● Occasional snacks or coffee (non-negotiable)

● A soft surface for when it’s time to get real

💡 What You Won’t Need ● To do this “perfectly”

● To answer every prompt

● To rush through it

● To pretend this isn’t hard

🗝️ The Only Rule: You Move at Your Pace Some days, you may fly through pages. Others, you may sit with one line for hours. Both are right. This isn’t school. This is your life, unfolding slowly and on purpose.

You’re not here to become someone new. You’re here to remember someone true.

I believe in you. Just know that.

🌀 SECTION I: THE OVERLOAD You Can’t Heal What You Haven’t Named

Before we fix anything, we need to see it. Before you reclaim your energy, your mind, your peace—you need to admit what’s been draining you in the first place.

This section is about truth. Not because truth is easy, but because it’s freeing.

🔹 “You’re not broken. You’re overwhelmed. There’s a difference—and it matters.”

🧠 LAYERED REFLECTION: What’s Really Going On? 1. Mental Layer – What’s Taking Up Headspace? List 10 things on your mind right now. Big or small. Practical or emotional.

2. Emotional Layer – What’s the Vibe of Your Days? Which of these emotions show up for you most often lately? ☐ Frustration ☐ Resentment ☐ Numbness ☐ Guilt ☐ Anxiety ☐ Exhaustion ☐ Shame ☐ …Other: _____________

Part 2

3. Behavior Layer – How Are You Coping? Without judgment: What do you do when it all feels like too much? (Examples: scrolling, overworking, snapping, isolating, people-pleasing, micromanaging, eating, avoiding)

NOTES

🗺️ EXERCISE: Create Your Overload Map Draw a circle labeled “ME” in the center of the page. Now draw and label all the “branches” pulling at your attention and energy. Include:

● Family

● Work

● Digital noise

● Unspoken obligations

● Emotional labor

● Fear

● Guilt

● Anything else that tugs at you

Coaching Tip: Don’t overthink it. Messy is welcome. The point is to see it—not solve it yet.

Yes, right here =)

🧘‍♀️ SOMATIC TOOL: The Floor Check Try this right now.

1. Sit upright with both feet flat on the floor.

2. Gently press your toes down into your shoes or the ground.

3. Let your hands rest on your thighs.

4. Inhale for 4 counts. Hold for 2. Exhale for 6. Repeat three times.

5. Ask: What am I carrying that’s too much?

Now: write it down. It may be heavy, but it’s not invisible anymore.

🔥 REAL-LIFE TENSION TEST: One Less Thing Today or this week, pick one thing you normally say yes to—and say no instead. It could be:

● Checking your email after dinner

● Volunteering “just because”

● Taking a call that drains you

● Answering a group chat the second it dings

Then write: What happened when you didn’t overcommit? What did you feel? What did you fear? What did you gain?

📝 JOURNAL PROMPT: If I Could Say What I Really Feel… Use this page to vent. Say everything you think you shouldn’t. You can tear it up later if needed.

Start here:

“If I could be honest without consequences, I would say…”

16 🌱 PROGRESS CHECKPOINT: What I Noticed This Week ✅ I told the truth (even just to myself) ✅ I named one thing I’ve been carrying ✅ I caught myself reaching for a coping habit—and paused ✅ I said “no” once, even if it was uncomfortable ✅ I remembered: this is a reset, not a collapse

✴️ SECTION II: THE AWAKENING Noticing What You’ve Been Silencing

Now that you’ve named what’s overwhelming you, it’s time to notice the deeper truth: What have you been tolerating? What have you been avoiding? What would happen if you stopped performing and started responding—to your own life?

This section isn’t about fixing everything. It’s about becoming honest enough to stop pretending you're fine.

🔹 Theme Anchor “You don’t have to hold it all together to be worthy of peace.”

🧠 LAYERED REFLECTION: What Are You Still Pretending Doesn’t Hurt? 1. Mental Layer – What Doesn’t Feel Aligned Anymore? List 3 things in your life that you’re doing out of obligation—not because they feel right.

2. Emotional Layer – Where Are You Numbing or Overfunctioning? Check all that apply: ☐ I overwork when I feel anxious ☐ I scroll when I feel overwhelmed ☐ I people-please to avoid conflict ☐ I pretend I’m fine to avoid being “too much” ☐ I say yes when I want to scream no

3. Behavior Layer – What Do You Keep Quiet About? What’s one truth you’ve been afraid to say out loud—about your life, your needs, or your limits?

🔥 REAL-LIFE TENSION TEST: Say “No” Without a Justification This week, your challenge is to say “no” without an apology or excuse. Just a simple sentence like:

● “Thanks for asking, but I’m not available.”

● “I won’t be able to do that.”

● “That doesn’t work for me.”

Then reflect:

● How did it feel in your body?

● What did you want to explain, and why?

● What happened after?

✍️ EXERCISE: The “Guilt Audit” List 3 things you know are healthy for you—but you feel guilty doing them anyway. Then answer:

● Where did that guilt come from?

● Whose rules are you following?

● Do those rules support your peace—or sabotage it?

🧘 SOMATIC TOOL: Body Boundary Check 1. Sit still for 1 minute and picture a situation where you said yes and later regretted it.

2. Where did you feel it in your body? (Jaw, stomach, shoulders, chest?)

3. Breathe into that area for a few moments.

4. Imagine that next time, your body gets to vote before your mouth says “yes.”

Write:

“Next time, I will check in with my body before I say yes to…”

🕯️ PEACE RITUAL: Ten-Minute “No” Space Designate a 10-minute block daily where you give zero output. No screens, no talking, no solving.

Ideas:

● Close your eyes with tea

● Sit outside

● Lay on the floor

● Stare at the ceiling like a renaissance painting

Then reflect:

● Did your brain resist the stillness?

● Did anything rise to the surface?

📝 JOURNAL PROMPT: “I’m tired of pretending that…” Let the sentence finish itself. Again and again. You don’t have to share it with anyone. But you need to see it. It feels good, doesn’t it?

🌱 PROGRESS CHECKPOINT: What I Awakened This Week ✅ I noticed where I overperform ✅ I felt guilt and didn’t let it win ✅ I said no (even awkwardly) ✅ I made space for stillness ✅ I felt something real return

🔄 SECTION III: THE RESET You Can’t Outrun What Your Body Remembers

You’ve named the overload. You’ve started noticing what’s out of alignment. Now, your body needs to catch up.

This section is about interrupting survival mode—not with perfection, but with presence.

🔹 Theme Anchor “Your body isn’t lazy. It’s in recovery from constantly being on alert.”

🧠 LAYERED REFLECTION: What Do You Give Yourself Last? Mental Layer — What’s your body been trying to tell you lately? Write about any pain, fatigue, sleep struggles, or cycles that seem louder than usual.

Emotional Layer — How do you feel when you try to rest or slow down? Do you feel guilty? Uneasy? Anxious? What do you make that feeling mean?

Behavior Layer — What “rest” habits are you currently using that don’t actually restore you? (Examples: Netflix, endless scrolling, staying busy to avoid emotion)

26 🧘 SOMATIC TOOL: Nervous System Reset – The 4-7-8 Breath Try this 3x today. (Once upon waking, once mid-day, once before bed)

1. Inhale through your nose for 4 counts

2. Hold for 7

3. Exhale slowly through your mouth for 8

After: Notice how your body responds. Where did tension release, if at all?

🧰 EXERCISE: Reclaiming Your Rhythm Write out your current morning or evening routine (even if it's a mess). Then rewrite it with small, supportive swaps. Focus on ease, not performance.

Example:

● Current: Scroll phone → Coffee → Rush out the door

● New: Breathe for 2 mins → Stretch → Coffee (phone stays off)

Note: Don’t try to “optimize.” Try to feel human.

🔥 REAL-LIFE TENSION TEST: Turn Off Notifications for One Hour Pick one window today (even just 30–60 minutes) to turn off all alerts. No dings. No pings. No buzzing.

Then answer:

● What did you notice in your body?

● What did you reach for out of habit?
