Fact sheet
Founded: 2026 · Number One Son Software Development · founder Roger Grubb (solo, with an AI co-founder)
What it is: A publishing house + bookshop + audio studio in one: authors upload a manuscript once and get a finished ebook AND a fully narrated audiobook (50+ AI voices, per-character casting)
Price to publish: $99 once per book — ever. No annual fees. (Competitors: Books.by $299/yr; Curios ~$240/yr; hiring a narrator alone: $1,000–$4,000)
Author economics: 80% royalties, locked for life, paid weekly every Friday via Stripe
Exclusivity: None, ever — versus ACX’s 7-year exclusivity for its top rate
AI narration: Welcomed and honestly labelled — where ACX/Audible and Amazon reject it outright
Reader data: Authors see and export their full reader list — names and emails. Built-in newsletter, release emails, referral rewards, cross-promotion
For readers: The whole first chapter of every book free, no signup. Purchases are DRM-free files owned forever, with a read-along app that syncs text to narration
Every author gets free: Their own website + blog at bookfactory.cafe/pen-name, link-in-bio page, promo kit, quote-card and QR-poster generators, ARC review links
Terms: Public and versioned with a changelog at /terms; 30 days notice; changes apply to new signups only
Story angles
The ACX rejection letter, answered. Amazon’s audiobook arm refuses AI-narrated books. A solo founder built the generator, the store, and the players they were refused — in one machine.
The anti-subscription publisher. Author platforms increasingly charge $99–$299 every year. This one charges $99 once, and includes the audiobook that costs $1,000+ anywhere else.
A solopreneur + AI co-founder built a publishing house. The entire platform — storefront, GPU audio pipeline, mobile app, marketing suite — built by one person working with an AI as CTO.
“Your readers are yours” as architecture, not marketing. Reader emails export freely, terms are versioned publicly, leaving takes one click. The lock-in-free publisher, structurally.
Books that outlive the bookstore. DRM-free by policy: what readers buy is a file they keep forever — a direct answer to vanishing digital libraries.
See it yourself
The homepage carries a full competitor comparison (17 features × 10 platforms — the red X’s are theirs). Every book’s first chapter is free to read and its audiobook sample free to hear. Every audiobook opens with the house signature: “This is Book Factory Café.”

Boring but useful: we don’t run ads, use third-party trackers, or sell reader data — revenue is the $99 conversion fee, a 20% share of sales, and a $39 automated Launch Boost. The whole model fits in a sentence, which we consider a feature.
